Nice garden helps sell your home?

I'm trying to sell my house in London and have a garden that's very out of shape. Do you think it's worth me giving it a makeover before I start getting in people to view the house? I've heard that an attractive garden can help sell a house quicker (though not necessarily add value) - has anyone else heard/experienced this?
Also, I'm considering a makeover to the front garden as well, to improve first impressions for viewers.
Any advice on whether these plans are a good idea would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you!

When I was looking to buy the first photo on the EA website I would look a would be of the garden. It might not be the same for others, but unless the garden was nice or had potential I'd move on to the next house straight away.0

In short yes. In buyers eyes, uncared garden = uncared for house.
Doesnt need to be much, as long as it looks tidyNo longer an accidental landlord, still a wannabe millionaire:beer:

Completely agree. It doesn't need to be an expensive overhall, just make it look neat and colourful. Dress the place up with pots and hanging baskets when it is warm enough to do so, get rid of all litter, weeds and anything that could be considered to be junk, add some feed to the lawn so it turns an inviting green and keep it short.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Thanks everyone. Very helpful. I'm looking at a low-maintenance make-over.0
