Bit of advice aboout weeds??
Hi MSE'S ,
I have a garden with lots of grass , thorns and weeds and they just won't go away and its hard to maintain , so i thought it would be nice and easy to cover the garden with a type of black tarpaulin and that would kill of everything leaving me with a nice empty plot of just mold and dead weeds :j
oh yes , and i was gonna cover the tarpaulin with little stones to make it look nice
,
But my question is , do you think this is a good idea and where can i buy very cheap but thick and efficient tarpaulin online ?????
Any advice is appreciated

If you live anywhere near the countryside pop into a farm and ask them for some old silage wrap. As long as you weight it down properly it should do the job.0

Tsk, reduce, reuse and whatever ...
Just think how your neighbours would appreciate you bringing the smell of the countryside into the city:rolleyes:
Sorry, I'm going to have to sit and ponder your reply for a while ... prefer to buy ... prefer to buy ...
It's just not computing with me:eek:0 -

I guess it would depend how much area you have to cover. Black bin liners slit up the sides would work for a smaller area but if you're covering quite a bit it can get fiddly with fixing down.
I just wish I had some tarpaulin to sell him ...;)0 -
lol ,
Yeah pond lining sounds like a good idea if i can't find the tarpaulin ,
i suppose i need to cover approximately 13 x 13 metres , any idea what it would cost?? I am great , yes I am

pond liner that size would be expensive. Pond liners are expensive generally. You'd be better off with cheap plastic sheets instead.
Or, mulch it. Much cheaper/easier and you're feeding and improving the soil at the same time.
I mulch all my beds. I use grass clipping and leaves (it's the lazy way to compost. Throw it down and let nature do it's work).
Mother nature will reclaim any bare soil. You just don't get it naturally.
I'd go for a layer of cardboard (old boxes etc) and then any organic matter I could find on top.0 -
You can find cardboard boxes on freecycle. I know because I've just given someone a load.
Otherwise, my DH got me some lovely blue tarpaulins from B&Q last year which we weighted down with bricks.0 -
We were going to do our sons front lawn (it's awful) but first I wanted to kill everything with glyphosate which is extremely effective and then cover the whole thing with plastic but with a few holes for attractive plants. You'd need to to make sure the ground under the plastic where you make holes did not have any glyphosate in/on it. At the time the best priced plastic sheets were for sale at Wilkinsons.0
