Accidentally installed Yahoo as default instead of Google

Google was my default setting. I installed Yahoo to be able to receive Flylady e-mails without realising it would install Yahoo toolbars and over-ride my Google internet search engine. I want to get back to Google but haven't a clue how to do it. Can some techie please give me some simple step-by step idiot proof instructions of what to do. Grateful thanks.

Change your home page back again in internet options in IE or personal preferences in Firefox. Also you can uninstall the toolbar in the control panel.0

Uninstalling the yahoo bar
- Click start (or the vista logo on vista) in the bottom left hand corner.
- Click on Control panel.
- If you are using xp click on classic view on the left handside menu if you are in category view.
- If you are using xp click on Add and remove programs. For vista go to programs then programs and features.
- Locate the yahoo toolbar and uninstall it. If you are using xp click change/remove. If you are using vista look here.http://www.which.co.uk/advice/add-and-remove-programs-in-windows/uninstall-or-change-programs-in-vista/index.jsp

Download and install the google toolbar if all the above seems a bit taxing, new bits of software do a good job of getting rid of the competition.....

thomas - thanks for your help but I've done as you instructed, and pressed the Remove options but the Yahoo toolbars are still there.
What have I done wrong?0 -
mrdtrotter - following my last move when yahoo wouldn't disappear, I've taken your advice and tried to download the Google toolbar as per your instructions, opting to set it as my default toolbar in Internet Explorer.
Yahoo is still there !
This may prove I'm unfit to use a computer but I don't know what to do now ??.

I would recommend a virus/spyware scan and installing winpatrol stopping Yahoo Toolbar starting on boot and removing it from the BHO in the browser tab. Use an uninstaller like Myuninstal to remove it.0

might take a reboot for yahoo not to show, unlikely but worth a try....0

I would do what asininigty suggested as a very last resort.....really shouldnt be that difficult to remove a free piece of software, follow thomas' advice through again and do a reboot before going onto winpatrol etc, software like that is becoming less and less neccessary.....0

That is of course if it was actually Yahoo Toolbar that was installed and not something just called Yahoo Toolbar. Because as you say it should be easy to uninstall it if it isn't then you look to viruses etc.0

Thank you all for your suggestions. My OH has now rescued me. Don't know what he did but I'm conscious I depend far too often on him for techhie help so was trying to do something for myself. Obviously that's once exam I've failed and have to go back to the drawing board!0
