I certainly didn't get any pain relief from mine, but then again I was giving birth to a big baby! LOL!

  • Just rang a couple lloyds and found one with some in stock, but forgot to ask what make TENS machine is so i can look it up on web before going down to buy it. I can't find it on lloyds website but will goggle it. So anyone who has one can you tell me the make or describe it to me.

If any of you guys are interested, on the lloyds pharmacy website they are advertising body fat scales for £14.99 reduced from £44.99, and a handheld fat monitor for £4.99.
  • i imagine these ones being sold cheap aren't the ones suitable for labour, as there are a few differences, like no boost button for one.
That aside i can now say that for me the tens machine did help during labour. The first 2 labours i hired one each time and used at home for quite a while. third time 3 weeks ago i hadn't hired one, and ended up using one at hospital, and if nothing else it gave a focus during the contractions. and i was at hospital for longer as had nothing to help the pain at home.
i think they're great for short term use.

  • Why would anyone consider pain relief during child-birth? Surely part of the fun?

I bought mine from Lloyds Pharmacy in Preston but they should stock them everywhere. I know someone that tried one for labour pain and it was useless!! however for back/joint pain they are fab.

  • All Lloyds have these as part of their promotional activities. For example in recent months Body fat scales, Fire blankets, Fire extinguishers, Stepometers.

Word of warning though, they always claim that they previously sold these items at a higher price, which is true in a select few of their large stores. Now the price seems vastly reduced. This is a cunning marketing stunt as they had no intentions of selling at higher price but wanted to create an offer.

The tens machines described seem to have an arrangement with Glaxo SmithKline as they are branded as "Solpadeine". If I was to buy one I'd be asking about replacement pads as these are currently not available and I would strongly suggest this to be a fundamental floor to this product!!

FYI, the £10 ones are branded "Femme" and come with a detachable booster button.

The National Childbirth Trust will gladly sell you one for £55.
