Arrgghh Gas CH boiler probelm please help!

I'm hoping someone out there can help as its driving me mad!!

I've got an old back boiler and normally have hot water and heating on constant this morning I got up and it was freezing, checked the pilot light, that was in, turned the temperature guage (sp) up and still it wouldn't fire up. I have changed the fuses, bled the radiators, the water is hot, as I was investigating on the internet it suddenly kicked in for about half an hour then turned off and now nothing! The other strange thing is that when it did work all radiators got hot except for the living room one which was freezing.

I'm really hoping that someone can help me come up with a fix that will keep my heating going until I've had time to save up for a new system.

Oh, and if you can give me advice please be as specific as possible as reading the internet for possible solutions I've got very confused!! :o

Unfortunately it could be anything and not being onsite and able to test, it's a bit tricky to diagnose.

    Some likley causes are:-
    • Faulty programmer / time switch
    • Faulty room thermostat / cylinder stat
    • Faulty motorised valve
    • Faulty boiler thermostat
    • Faulty gas valve
    • Some other problem
It would be best to see if you can get it to reliably start and stop in response to one control input like your hot water cylinder thermostat and that will help narrow it down a bit.

P.S. I am a qualified corgi and have never heard of ultimate DIY, but I am sure it is wonderful.
