Could anyone advise me before I claim for my carpet which my daughter has burnt with the iron is my policy likely to be increased by vast amount when it comes round to renewal time? I have contents insurance with saga and I have never claimed for anything in the past so, I have no idea if its worth claiming or just buying a new carpet if I am going to have to pay more later on. Thanks Jacqui

Hi something similiar happened in our house when my 2 daughters were arguing over a comic and one held it behind her back in front of the fire and it caught fire, I ended up with a big burn mark in the middle of the floor. I made a claim on the house insurance and we got about £500. The house renewal did not increase by that much I don't think, it was the following year it leaped up so I just switched.0

How big is the carpet?
How much is a replacement carpet likely to be?
Could you just put a rug over it?Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

If you have just Standard cover the saga policy probably won't pay it as its not a fire as there was not flame / source of ignition.
If you have accidental damage cover then they will probably cover it.
It is likely to increase your premium by around 15% this year and the load will fall to around 10% and possibly around 5% the year after.
Bear in mind you will have an excess to pay towards the claim0 -
We have cover plus so would cover for this damage but I think with the excess £100 and then the increase to the premium I may just buy a new carpet instead of losing the no claims. I would have covered it with a rug but, as its right at the door I am unable to do so. Thanks for the replies Jacqui0

When your renewal is due, ask how much it is to reduce your excess to a more managble amount say £50 as it would then make it worth your while claiming for the smaller claims. It will probably only increase your premium by about £5 to £10 based on a £200 premium0
