Regenerating Blackpool's economy?

A couple of years ago I was training for a marathon and used to enter as many half marathons and 10ks as a I could, as it was much more motivating to do a proper run that do long distances around my home town.
One of the ones I did was the Blackpool half marathon. Obviously, many people do it for charity and wear fancy dress and as I was waiting at the start line I was chatting to a guy in a big bear costume (the mammal, not the financial type) with a big, custom made t-shirt advertising the local hospice that he was running for. As we started I ran with him for the first quarter mile or so until we passed a group of three rather rough looking lads drinking cans of lager. One of them shouted "stupid f*cking bear tw*t" and chucked an almost full can at him, hitting him in the face.
Whenever I think of Blackpool, I think of this incident. But that's rather unfair on Blackpool as I'm sure they weren't from there. Funny how some things stay with you, it was such an utterly depressing and sad incident that it comes back in to my mind all the time.0 -

Mewbie's last post on here was:
"psting on move, usng blakbry, littl tim t explan, cant go bck to hse, being watchd, will try pst ltr. gud luk gys, if i dont mke it i'll alwys remember u. stay safe. mewbs."
How we laughed. Little did we know that he was being serious and is now shackled in one of the basement rooms of MI5.
With regard to your signature, Mr Broderick used to have one very similar. I do miss him.0 -
Funny how people slag off Blackpool but still go there for a night out! Wherever you live parts of it will be a shithole. There is more to Blackpool to the town centre belive it or not!0

Just for the record, I slag Blackpool off and never, ever go there for a night out. So I may be unpleasant, but at least I'm honourable and true to my word.0 -
We used to love it but took our kids their last year for the weekend and was horrified. Drunken people wandering round the streets during the day. That is fine at night time when kids are in bed. The room was disgusting. Definitely not going back!0

It does also depend on the area of Blackpool that you stay in.
As we had a toddler, we used to stay where the old fogies used to stay, the North Shore area of Blackpool.
Lovely empty stretch of beach, long seafront for dog walking and pram pushing and pubs that weren't full to the brim with tarts and **ss heads.
