Cheap Flight to Strasbourg?

Options
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows if it's even possible to find a return flight to Strasbourg for under £100? I'm looking to fly in the first two weeks of June and stay for 3 nights (although I don't need accomodation as I'm staying with friends). It seems quite expensive and the only other option is to fly to Basel and get the train. It's much cheaper but a lot more hassle as the train takes about 1 1/2hrs to get to Strasbourg.

Can anyone help? Thanks

  • Where are you? Train from London or Ebbsfleet is an option.

Ryanair fly from Stansted to Karlsruhe Baden, 45 minutes from Strasbourg. I don't know how much a rental car would be for four days if your friends can't come and pick you up.

Consider ryanair to Karlsruhe-Baden (FKB) and a train from there perhaps.

    I'm in Brighton.

Ryanair is an option, but, as we all know, Stansted is miles away from anywhere and it would take 1hr to get to London Victoria (from here) and then another 1hr30 on a coach to Stansted.

I'd probably take a train from Karlsruhe to Strasbourg if one is available.

easyJet Gatwick to Basel, might be easier if you are in Brighton.

If I were you I'd go easyJet to Basle. However, the airport is actually called 'Basle/Mulhouse EuroAirport' and serves three cities in three countries, so it would be easier for you to get a local bus to Mulhouse and the train to Strasbourg rather than go all the way to Switzerland and back. easyJet berths in the Swiss half (the airport has a strange symmetrical design based around an international axis) but it's easy enough to cross straight over to the French bit. If it's after the end of March it will be easier still as Switzerland will have become a full member of Schengen. All (or nearly all) Basle-Strasbourg trains stop at Mulhouse as well as loads of local ones, so it'll be quicker (and cheaper) to go that way.

Air France runs direct flights Gatwick-Strasbourg direct. They occasionally have reasonably decent (well, less horrific anyway) fares so it may be worth investigating if you can be flexible.

You should also investigate Eurostar - it's now really quick to Strasbourg and there are sometimes excellent special offers available.
