Help cannot connect to certain sites.

Hi

Please can somebody advise on what might be wrong I have have been visiting 2 sites on regular bases for quite a while. They are in my favourites but all of a sudden i am unable to connect to them. All that comes up is cannot find server. Yet all the other sites in my favourites work. Any idea on why this is happening and how to fix the problem.

Thanks

Ken

The URL of the website may have changed slightly, e.g. your favourite may have been a particular page or folder on the website and they've changed it slightly when they edit/update the website. Try entering the basic website address in your browser address bar, navigate to the page you want and then save it again in your favourites by overwriting your old favourite or save with a new name and delete your old favourite.

Could be a DNS problem with your ISP.

What are the sites and can you ping them?

To ping open a command prompt (in xp goto Start->Run then type in cmd), then type ping, then the name of the site

    eg

    ping https://www.moneysavingexpert.com

Are you with NTL broadband and are you trying to connect to ebay? - if so this is a known fault - try searching on google.

Ok, so the ping shows possibly one packet got through, it sends 4 and 3 timed out. Do a trace route and see if you can find where the problem is, once again go to the command prompt and type in tracert, then the web address eg

    tracert https://www.moneysavingexpert.com

if you get stars in the 3 columns then this is the server that is causing the problems.

If you haven't switched your router/modem off recently I would do so and let it reboot.

It would also help if you told us what sites they are and who your ISP is ;)

Dis as you advised and would you believe it all it needed was switching on and off. Something so simple can be so frustrating.

    Thanks for all your help
