Threat of gas price rise as reserves run dry

Pipeline breakdowns and cold weather leave yawning breach in nation's energy security

"Britain faces an energy crisis next month as vital gas reserves run dry, top energy analysts warn. The unprecedented emergency, which exposes a gaping hole in the country's energy security, is expected to lead to sharp price increases.

Centrica, which owns British Gas, told The Independent on Sunday late last week that, on present trends, its main reserve would be totally depleted in a little over three weeks."

The National Grid said: "We are not really seeing anything to cause us concern".
    Why didn't you quote that?

\Do I have it right though that the grid is predominantly dealing with day to day supply? They are not seeing anything to cause concern yet, as there is gas flowing through the grid. Surely they will see things to concern them when energy is not flowing through the grid. Im sure tihs is brief reporting , I cant honestly believe that the grid only said about 10 words on the subject when asked.

If its not panic time now with gas ( or in the next 25 days) IT WILL HAPPEN SOON.

Im staggered about how little the general public cares about our overreliance on foreign gas that always has an end date in sight. ( be it supplies or diplomacy)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

It's not really bothering the marketplace. Near-term UK gas prices dropped quite considerably in the second half of the week. I think it's just Centrica trying to talk up the market, and a newspaper doing what they do best: depress people and stir up worry.
