My DH put our car on Ebay and so far we are quite chuffed, it has some bids but hasn't met the reserve yet. He put on the auction that if anyone has less than 5 feedbacks then to contact him before bidding. Someone has sent him a message and they have only joined today. Here is what they said
Q: i am a new ebay user but am very interested in more details about the car, i am a serious buyer my mobile is *********** many thanks
I dont quite know what to do. He has included his number but does DH fone him or what

I don't see what the problem is? He wants more info, maybe he doesn't have regular enough access to a computer to use email....Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0

What's the problem?
You have asked for anyone with lower than 5 FB to contact you and they have?
If you want to sell the car, ring the guy, if you don't want to sell it, don't ring! lol
Don't forget, we all started out with 0 feedback, that's why I don't understand these 'no 0 FB or under 5/10 FB' lines.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I agree, you asked low feedback buyers to contact you and he has, so what did you intend doing once they contacted you?shellnsteve wrote:What's the problem?

What i meant to add is that DH wouldn't quite know what to say when foning him. All that i wanted was a bit of advice.
I wasn't the one that put in the feedback line into the auction and i didnt take too kindly to the "so whats the problems?" (partly pmt partly nicotine deprivation). Its something that got me a little anxious and in the heat of the moment id thought id turn to MSE for some help, maybe someone out there had had the same worries in the past.A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -

It's not really usual to add such a line into an auction so many sellers on here would never have come across it as a problem. Also since it is a car then at least you will be dealing with the buyer face to face and can safeguard your payment methods.
The only time sellers tend to ask for contact is where paypal will be involved and I assume paypal will not be offered as an option as the item is not delivered. Or mobile phones that attract the 419 scammers, and in those cases it is usually just to see if they have a working email address and understand how the payment methods work.
I did it once on a high end phone and when I did get a newbie bid I just asked them if their paypal account was set up already and really to just establish they felt right.
However, I'm sorry if you thought we were being un necessarily harsh, but the questions raised were valid. If your husband added the line to his auctions he must have had some idea what he was going to do when they contacted him? Personally I would just phone the guy and get a name and address, nothing more, and then check those details on the various address finder sites just to make sure it all looks OK.

I don't really think he knew what he was going to do. Thats what happens when you leave them on there own for 5 minutes
I think he replied back to his question, although he never told me, i'm just assuming, i will have to ask him when he gets home. There was another person last night on the same boat but their email just sounded a lot more genuine and they were a lot closer to us too. Fingers crossed that the car sells.
