Catastrophic Fall in 2009 Global Food Production

After reading about the droughts in two major agricultural countries, China and Argentina, I decided to research the extent other food producing nations were also experiencing droughts. This project ended up taking a lot longer than I thought. 2009 looks to be a humanitarian disaster around much of the world...

They do take it seriously. Many serious investors have been investing in grain.

As a result there was much artificial ramping of prices and discisions made purely on money, not wisdom or good practice. I get very angry about this.

Have you thought of getting a Nintendo Wii or an Xbox 360? Mario Kart, bowling and shooting the living bejesus out of aliens. You'd love it.

    Because it's hyperbole.

The drought in Australia has broken in many areas - NSW and VIC have had a wetter than average summer and many drought afflicted areas have had plenty of rain. South Australia is still experiencing many problems it is true to say. Queensland has had severe flooding!

WA and the Northern Territory don't have very much farming I don't think.

I have no idea about Tasmania.

Hey Gen, Aus was importing forage in a major way last season because there was a national shortage of fibre-feed. This meant of course a nation had to come to terms with feeding sugar beet for the first time for many. Someone I 'knew' on a forum in Aus managed to convince a lot of local horse keepers it was a by product of the oil industry ...just for laughs of course:rolleyes:

Edit: the national shortage was because of...presumambly relatively localised.........drought ;)
