Varnishing Pine

Having bought expensive oak doors we have made the mistake of using pine skirting and now having a problem matching the colour of varnish. Tried loads of different makes and shades but cant get anything need the colour of doors. Has anyone had a similar problem shed any light on what varnish to buy.
Thanks

Why don't you paint the skirting in the same colour as the walls, or a neutral tone if that's not appropriate? Don't ruin beautiful doors when you probably won't ever get the perfect match as the base grain and colour is just not the same.

  • How many coats of varnish have you tried? It gets deeper with each coat. Rub down lightly and clean with white spirit or sugar soap before adding another coat.
