Accidental HSBC credit card cash withdrawal

My Wife did the same thing last month!
Here's what I did.
Rang the CCard Company and explained that cash had been accidently withdrawn on the card. Then asked how to avoid further penalty costs etc....
They charged a "Handling Fee" of £3 and then annual interest I think at 25ish%
They said if I cleared the outstanding balance plus any recently authorised transactions that had not yet cleared onto the account they would immediately freeze the account in respect of being charged any further interest.
So I paid my balance up, as I always do but normally at the end of the month, and only got charged 1p in interest.
I tried for a refund on the other charge of £3 explaining it was in error, never used the card for cash before etc... but they were having none of it !!0 -
You need to pay off the entire balance, so x + y + cash, then 2,50 for handling fee + 0.50 to cover the interest - that should clear it all off!0

Just got a call from HSBC (in response to my e-message) stating that my accidental cash withdrawal has been converted into a "purchase" transaction, and that my cash advance fee of £2.50 has also been refunded! Hence, I'll get charged nothing altogether. Nice of them, eh?0

Thats a good result in this day and age. Well Done
I think you have benefited from the fact that HSBC is about the only bank not suffering a funding crisis.0 -
How was it an "accident"? AFAIK the cash machines always "warn" you when you use a credit card and tell you that you'll be charged a handling fee.0

Anyway, the fact that I immediately effected a payment into my credit card account should indicate that the withdrawal was unintentional in the first place.0 -
Intalex - a very easy thing to do, especially if you use the same PIN for more than one card.
If you never ever want this to happen again why not change your CREDIT CARD(s) to Chip & SIGNATURE???0
