Selling items on Ebay

Hi,
Apologies if this is not the right board.
Wondered if anyone with experience of selling on Ebay could help me out. Have several things I am thinking of putting on. Have people found the site a good way of making a bit of extra cash? Is it worth it for the Ebay fees/postage etc?
Have a wedding dress, tiara & veil, which should be worthwhile. Know I will get back nothing like what spent but accept that.
Mobile Phone with accessories. Won't get much for but shouldn't cost much for postage etc
Lots of books. Not going to sell for much each & may be pricy to post. Are they worth the effort?
Clothes/Handbags.
Any advice greatfully accepted.

I sold my first two items on ebay this week - I got around £20 each including postage for a skirt and a top! I was amazed - the top was new and went for more than I bought it for originally.
I charged £3 for postage - first class with a certificate of posting - and I use prepadded envelopes, which Ryman sell quite cheaply. I'm close to post offices at work and at home so no problems there.
I found Amazon Marketplace better for books - I have already sold one there. Amazon gives you a fixed amount for postage.
It's easier than I thought - I paid £2 for listing of 4 items on ebay. Two didn't sell but I've relisted one.0 -
save all packaging that comes into your house and reuse that to send most items in
i always put a small note at the bottom of my auctions stating that i feel it is my civic and moral duty to recycle whenever possible but if they want to have me send their item in new packaging they can contact me and i will amend their invoice to include the cost of new packaging (my postage fees are almost always lower than most anyway)
i've never had a request nor have i had any complaints
to get the best idea of how much something is worth type the item into the search bar then click on advance search
then click on 'closed auctions'
this gives you a very good idea of how much an item really sells for and how often it sells
it will tell you if you shoudl start at a lower bid to draw interest or use a buy it now
you can also check the highest priced closed auctions to see what catagory they placed it in and their wording

Hi Dora,
As Bargain Rzl has pointed out, you will probably get more replies on the ebay board, so I'll move your thread over there for you.

I have found ebay very good, I love it!
I would check the completed listings (option on left hand side) and see what similar items go for and then take into account ebay and paypal fees.
As for books I would go for Amazon. Check out the two (long) threads on here, the first page of the first one especially.0 -
BG NOTE
Apologies for any confusion but I've merged two threads.
