Is it ok to let HBOS go under

From a personal point of view I'm loving watching Halifax fall apart. They deserve everything they get.
My only concern is if it goes under, how much real damage will it do?

It's the biggest banking group in the country. Financial armagedon anyone? Or is your schadenfreude more important?“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

Couldn't happen to nicer bunch - the gatekeeper at my local branch in Wickford - is a very, very rude woman and I couldn't think of another person more deserving of a trip to the job centre!!!!0

Some warm hearted people here who are happy for fellow citizens to lose their job to satisfy their lust for vengeance 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

Could some people's judgement/views be clouded by their past experiences with Halifax (or whichever bank/organisation)? Is it not simply easier to vote with your feet and take your custom elsewhere. I would not enjoy others losing their job because I had some sort of problem with an institution, I would take what little money I have:rolleyes: and my custom to another bank. Just my opinion FWIW0

Cos Halifax staff are so nice to others who have suffered the same fate.Nope not a single one, a load of lies, threats and abuse from the branch staff up to the directors office. Some warm hearted people here who are happy for fellow citizens to lose their job to satisfy their lust for vengeance :eek:Barclaycard 3800

Of course, you know this having dealt with the 38,000 staff at Halifax on a personal basis.
You should work on your bitterness as well as your debt.0 -
They wont go under, the Government protects banks.0

Can I just (again) stick my head above the wall and say that during our reposession, the Halifax staff were very helpful and tried everything to allow us to hold onto our home and when it was realised that it was impossible, even asked the judge for us to be granted extra time over and above the normal amount of time to give us a chance to sort ourselves out and secure a rental property.
Ducking back behind the wall again......We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

My personal view is that it's high time the government let a major bank go under. It has been very clear from the past weeks' events that bankers still think it's all a big joke and that they can simply carry on reaping huge bonuses whilst the rest of the country shiver.
A major collapse might just serve to concentrate a few minds at the other banks.
