please help me if you can re; bt charging me for numbers i didn't dial

Bt are charging me for calls I didn't make from my home phone. The 0871 number has been called all times throughout the day and night even when my husband and myself are in work, Bt wont acknowledge this as some calls where made after we had phoned family members.
Where do I go next with this matter as they say i will have to pay the £609.67 bill!!

I had this problem (with a rogue dialler) even when I had broadband. It's a sort of computer virus thing that defaults to dialling 087 numbers. I had a major battle with BT about it (they contacted me after my bill topped £500 after a usual of about £30 a quarter - I thought it was my brother playing a pratical joke at first).

After lots of arguments and research, I disputed the calls and contacted my MP. She wrote to BT and eventually it was sort of sorted, as they halved the bill. I still wasn't happy but apparently it was my fault not theirs.

I also got someone in to give my PC a full check to make sure it was clear. We never did find the specific problem but it hasn't recurred, thank goodness.

I'm sure you'll find others that have had this problem too if you do an internet search. Good luck with getting it sorted.

Your computer can only 'dial' if it can attain a dial tone. If you have a modem in your PC it should be removed if you use ADSL (broadband). There is no need for a modem in your PC unless you are using it with some sort of fax software or -of course- you still use dial-up.

Removing a modem card is VERY easy. You can either do it literally by opening the case or by disabling it inside the Device Manager http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Device_Manager

How about just remove the phone cable.

That's a good idea :) For some people. However, if it's someone who's a bit 'limited' with computers they might just plug it in again in a few months -or worse- plug it into somewhere that'll melt their PC (ie the network/ethernet socket). It does fit at a push :D
