Car Auctions Help Please! Cheap/Reliable Car too!
Is there a site that lists all the car auctions locally? I looked on Honest John, but I can't find the link ... keep going to business sites
Edit: oopps! Sorry, I found it, was looking in the wrong place!
Ok, will go on to my 2nd request for help!
Looking for a car that is reliable, then cheap to buy and run. The purpose is just to learn to drive! I got the driving intructor (AKA the good buddy!) now just need a car. I've been looking at Micra's ... are there any other cars that are similar in costs and reliability?
Was hoping to get something for under £500!
Thanks in advance!
Edit Again! (can ya tell i know nothing about cars!?!) Looking for a 1.0 to 1.3 max engine, manual, 4 door smallish car .... not sure what other make i should be looking at, other than the nissan micra

Micras - so your looking for an older car then? Even newish micras (R/S) Reg still fetch around £2,500.
How old do you want it? Or, how old are you willing to accept it?
Have a look on https://www.wisebuyers.co.uk for car prices.0 -
Re Auctions

Older car yes, 'cos I don't expect to be driving it long after I have got a license. But how old is too old? I know that a cars mileage should not be more than 10k per year .... but I don't know how old a car is from its reg.
I saw a really really nice Punto, fantastic condition (from what I could see on the picture) P reg for £499 .... that was until I got a 'driver' to call up and ask about it, the other side of the car was mashed (couldn't be seen in picture!) , hole under the car (forgot which bit), bonnet wouldn't open and there was something else wrong with it too and it would have cost £800 - £900 for repairs Have learnt today that all cars that look pretty in picture are not neccesarily that pretty
will check out the site ... thanks!

Hi!
OK - £500 is not going to get you much. Small cars keep their value much better than big cars for all sorts of reasons, however if you haven't got a license then trying to insure something big and powerful is going to be an eye watering experience! :-)
I can't comment on car auctions as I've never been to one. Every time I've bought a car privately I've taken someone 'mechanical' along with me to provide a valuable opinion as to whether the car is mechanically.
In order to get an idea of what the going rate is, have a look on autotrader (https://www.autotrader.co.uk) at cars being sold in your area. (I have found cars to be cheaper in the north than London for some absurd reason.) Japanese cars (e.g. Nissans) hold their value better (in general) than home grown ones due to a reputation for reliability. I think you are probably looking at a metro / fiesta / corsa...
I hope that helps

Three cars I always suggest people at least give some consideration to when buying cheap, due to a combination of low running costs, cheap insurance, decent reliability and high depreciation (= bargains).
Hyundai Accent, Skoda Felicia and Seat Ibiza.
OK, not the trendiest cars around, but all three are dependable cheap cars with a good reliability record. Not absolutely necessary to buy German or Japanese and pay over the odds (the Seat and Skoda are Volkswagen-derived, the Hyundai is based on Mitsubishi mechanicals).0 -
Hi!
If you're still looking - try the autotrader web site (https://www.autotrader.co.uk). Yesterday I bought a car via that web site and learnt that cars appear on the website before the printed edition of the magazine.
You'll need to take someone along who preferably has some mechanical knowledge, but at least has insurance to drive any car (most people with fully comp policies have this I think) so they can test drive the thing for you and they're a valuable second opinion.

You need to clik http://www.honestjohn.co.uk then clik, on the banners on the left of his homepage the British Car Auction link for Auctionview .
The search for 'branded' part exchange sections, from large dealer groups, is your best chance for 'genuine' cheapies.
