HSBC or Halifax??

I just applied online for an HSBC current account which comes with an 8% regular savings account. As far as I can see this current account has no charge as long as I pay my wages into it, which is fine.

However, I'm now seeing a lot of posts about the Halifax 10% regular savings account. Should I cancel my HSBC application?

And a lot of people are saying not to bother with HSBC but I think that is because of the charges on their 'plus' accounts, which is not the one I am getting. I'm a bit confused, just trying to get into money saving and finding so much information it is difficult to sift through! If anyone can clarify i'll be very grateful!
