does anyone know if guardian homeloans is in administration as i tried to claim back missold ppi and got my letter back opened with "winding up company "written on it. Companies house say the company still active so any help really appreciated thanks...

I do not know about the above but they are obviously there if they could write that on the envelope.

Did you send the letter recorded and use the Sar from this site.?
Am sure somebody will come on who can check this out for you.

If they are still active and you require information from them if you've not any then I would do as Maxdp suggested, send them a SAR (Subject access request), you will find the template letter for this in the SAR thread with details.
Any problems just post up, good luck and any help on reclaiming, please give us a yell.;)
