i attempted to make a payment on wednesday morning and they declined the transcation althought i had money in my account ,
I re-checked my balance and noticed that althought it had been declined they had reserved the funds , i was told it would be refunded to my account withing 48 hours ..
its still not showing up on my account and they have now charged me £8.00 because my account will be £3.46 overdrawn because of the payments made before they declined this transaction but if they had refunded this money then i wouldnt be charged
the other annoying thing is the charge has the date of the 16th feb on it but its only the 14th ,,

Anyone else confused.
If the payment had not been declined you would have still been overdrawn.0 -
Not really. Just stating that they have returned it and charged £8. Why did they not pay it anyway and make the charge on top.
Just not understanding that you can not go overdrawn without prior arrangement.0 -

"reserved" authorisations wouldnt affect the balance for effect of charges therefore if they are being charged its because they overspent regardless of this transaction.0 -

Maybe I am having one of my dull days, but I still dont get it.
If the payment went through they would have been overdrawn due to the other payments.
Try to explain it to me as if you were talking to a blonde Argos employee on a Saturday morning.0 -

It's still not returned to my account and they have now charged me a £8.00 fee because my account will be £3.46 overdrawn because of another payments made before they declined this transaction but if they had refunded the 'on hold' money as promised then I wouldn't be charged. The annoying thing is the charge has the date of the 16th Feb on it but its only the 14th.
Edited to maybe make it easier to understand but the basic is that they tried to take some money out of their account which was then declined with the amount they tried to withdraw placed on hold. (Unable to be removed or even count to the amount in the bank.) They was changed a fee because of going overdrawn due to the money placed on hold.
If the money on hold was placed back in the account then they would of not went overdrawn and that the statement is showing that it happened on the wrong date. Hope that helped.0 -

...but if the "money on hold" was taken rather than placed "on hold" they would have still been overdrawn because of the other payments due....
Op. Come back and explain to save my sanity.0 -
Barclays is rythming slang, which should make any one realise what they are really like0

AFAIK the money that's "earmarked" shouldn't trigger any charges because it's not actual money.0

correct, as its available balance not current balance thats affected by earmarked payments. Sometimes a charge does appear in this case, it is a bank error and i have refunded a couple of these over last few months. Obviously i dont know if this is the issue with yourself, but your branch can pick up on it very quickly, and these are immediate refunds if it is what happens. It is the only time where we can refund thoughHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure.0 -
As for the date of the 16th, that's because that would have been the first working day after the 14th
Probably best to pop into a branch and get it all checked out and refunded if necessary, ie. a bank error.0
