I despise direct debits

I've only ever had one issue with Direct Debits - with Sky, who couldn't find their !!!!!! with both hands and a map, and even then that was partially my fault. Everything else has been just peachy.
People who'd willingly queue for ages to pay bills in banks utterly confuse me.0 -
Everything relies on the DD being set up correctly in the first place, it is a complete nightmare if the cc company or the bank involved (I never did find out which) make a pig's ear out of the initial set up. Then the payment doesn't get made, I'm left with a missed payment strike on my credit rating and hours of phone calls to sort it out. I got the late payment fee reimbursed eventually but nothing could be done about my previously squeaky clean credit record.
No DD for me unless there is no alternative.0 -
What gets me the most I suppose, is the fact that most companies now charge you extra if you don't pay but direct debit. I think it should be a choice and you shouldn't be penalised for it.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

I've been using Direct Debits for about 20 years as well. Did you know originally you could get Direct Debits that were for a set amount much like a standing order and the amount could not be changed by the company?
You had to have a Variable Direct Debit (VDD) for the company to be able to change the amount, somehow over the years they are now the only type of direct debit available and the set DD has disappeared completely.
Have to say though, I love DD's - makes it a lot easier. I've had plenty of problems over the 20 years, but have always been able to using the guarantee to get my money back.0 -
Ive been using DD's for 10 years id say and ive not had any problems with them, i only have a few an dnot many as others but i still use DD, i dot understand why other people have issues with DD's0
