Can anybody explain to me, my gas meter measures in cubic feet why do you have to multiply the number of units by 2.83 to convert to cubic meters? working on this calulation 1 cubic foot = 2.8 cubic meters.
we all know that a cubic meter is far bigger than a cubic foot.

Because energy companies do not charge you per cubic foot or cubic metre, so they convert these using:
multiplying units on meter by correction factor 1.002264
convert to cubic metres by multiplying by 2.83 (miss this step if your meter already reads in cubic metres)
multiply by calorific value about 38-41
convert to kwh by dividing by 3.6
Does this answer your question at all? I thought it might be easier just giving you the calculation.0 -
It's not in cubic feet, it's in hundreds of cubic feet.
There's 3.28ish feet in a metre. 3.28 times 3.28 times 3.28 is the number of cubed feet in a cubed metre. Multiply this by 2.83 and you should get about 100.0 -
D'oh. My brain knew what I meant, but my fingers didn't. :rolleyes:0
