Widescreen problems with Sony HXD-890 HDD freeview recorder

I've noticed over the past week that my Sony HXD-890 HDD freeview recorder fails to correctly display the widescreen picture on the 4music and Film4 channels. When switching to these channels, the picture is initially shown correctly as widescreen but then the left and right sides of the picture are cut leaving a 4:3 cropped picture.
It seems that the company responsible for broadcasting these channels (Arqiva) have carried out some updates which have affected Sony machines as well as some Pioneer/Sharp products. The following forum has more detail on the issue for anyone who is affected:
