I'm to keep them in for the next few days. Not sure if I want to let them out unsupervised anymore.

I didnt realise collars caused so much stress to the cat, I thought safety collars were as the name stated.
I was also told that collars with bells help to save small animals being killed. I thought that the sound warns them of the cats presence and allows escape.
I dont know what to do now... I only want the best for my cats but there is so much conflicting advice...
I think no matter what subject to do with Pets, whether collars, chips, Spaying, letting them out, keeping them in etc there's always good & bad & you have to go with you gut instinct & experiences & do what YOU feel is right. I won't as I witnessed the Brother of the Cat I have now almost die through a caught collar & see no reason for them ALTHOUGH I have now got one for mine for the Cattery or Vets in case she somehow escapes, as she's not then in her familiar area. Here she knows where she lives & I can't see any reason for her to stray, if she does she has the chip. She lost her collars alot too!
I think the bell can help yeah but i've taken it off of Tess' collar (The one for when out) as IMO Cats are predators & it's part of what makes them Cats, they hunt it's what Cats do & sad as it is, wildlife isn't in short supply but then mine has killed maybe 2 things in 2yrs. She normally dumps them live by my feet & goes off again! She just isn't a hunter but if she were to me it's life & part of what they are. Of course if I see her with anything (And her Brother when I had him caught alot) I take it away & let it go while keeping her in if possible.0 -
Oh poor kittens, I hope they recover from their shock soon.
I wonder what the kids think they are going to do with 2 kitten collarsMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

I don't use a collar on my cat - she utterly hated having one on when she was little - she caught it on everything trying to pull it off - after an encounter with a nurse failing miserably through no fault of her own to put a collar/cone on suzie after she was spayed resulting in her going utterly skitz and getting covered in pee (my cat not the nurse.....tho i'm sure she got some on her at some point.
To be safe in my area I only let her our during the day generally from 6am - 10pm, and even on the occasions when i forget to lock the cat flap she doesn't appear to go out. The only reason I do this is cos there's quite a lot of drunken idiots around my way and we've had cases where animals have been injured mysteriously and I dont want her to be one of them.
I'd feel the same if i were you tho TrickyNiki, i'd be utterly raging at the kids with the collars too! Maybe the kittens wont venture that far again and stick to the garden and immediate area from now on?? Or is your garden quite open plan and easy to access?Debt which IS NOW GONE before 31.12.2011: CC - GONE!!! :j Loan: GONE!! :j

Mine don't wear collars - they hate them and just get them off, somehow. I never found it made any difference to the amount of birds they catch either.0

The garden is closed in but the cats can get out into the field next door. When I moved in I thought this was great as it would give the cats a safe place to roam with no major roads nearby. If the cats stick to the garden then they cant be bothered except by other cats and small dogs that may chase them, but the dogs wouldnt get through the cat flap.
I think the collars were a consolodation prize for the kids. My cats didnt mind the collars they had on, they look pretty strange now they dont have them. I think I could compromise, a collar when they go out and when they are inside I take it off. Then they dont wake me up and the small animals are saved.0 -

lol I know what you mean about being woken up, my Dog has to have a collar of course & has to have two ID Tags & they clang I swear! At least I know if she's pestering the Cat before she gets to her though! Please be really careful if you continue to use collars especially around woods/fields & remember they probably won't stop them catching things!0 -
Poor little mites, hope they've recovered from their horrid ordeal. Can't believe that people can be so very cruel and think certain kids are very warped. Read about two little puppies being roasted over fire only last week but thankfully someone came to their rescue and saved their lives. What a sick World we live in. Think I'd keep them in for a while.0

Just read this http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/cgi/news/release?id=37901 i'm not sure how long ago it was written but maybe these collars would help the wildlife as normal bells don't? Well I just googled & almost everything on page 1 said they don't help or only in 34% of cases. Not sure if it's a safety collar as i'm still reading it but then safety collars don't make a difference anyway lol0

Glad the kittens are safe now and less stressed. Its terrible to think kids would harm animals, but unfortunately it does happen.
