this is a run by yes loans, I would avoid any of these fee based companies and speak to CCCs or Payplan

  • Hi
Please do not sign up to this!
instead try CCCS or Payplan who will do the same job for free. So all of your payment goes towards paying the debt off. I have just started off on a dmp with CCCS and they have been really helpful.

Search on here for 'DMP mutual support thread' for more help and advice.

    Regards,

The right people to go to...
The aim is to find non-profit debt counselling help, in other words a one-on-one session with someone paid to help you, not to make money out of you. Be careful not to confuse this with ‘free help’: many commercial companies say they’re free as you’re not charged directly, but you’ll still pay somehow.
    The places I'd suggest are:
    • Consumer Credit Counselling Service: Full debt help service. Link: CCCS Tel: 0800 138 1111
    • National Debtline: Full debt help service. Link: National Debtline Tel: 0808 808 4000
    • Citizens Advice Bureau: Full debt and consumer advice service. Link: Citizens Advice or visit your local CAB centre (find nearest)
    • Christians Against Poverty: Debt counselling agency, which specialises in helping those who are emotionally struggling too. The religious focus is why they do it, not how they do it. Link: Christians Against Poverty or call 01274 760720.
    • For evictions/repossessions: If you’re in danger of this it’s important to get legal advice asap. The Housing Duty Scheme, by Community Legal Advice or call 0845 345 4345, gives free advice at around 100 courts across England and Wales.
    • Local agencies: There may be a local debt help agency in your area, if so check it is non-profit or a charity, before signing up.
    What they do to help
These counsellors use a variety of techniques. It could be simply negotiating with creditors to freeze your interest, you may be put on a debt management plan, where they negotiate with your creditors. You may be pointed toward an IVA (Individual Voluntary Arrangement) or even bankruptcy (not as scary as it sounds).
They will certainly show you how to prioritise the most important debts to enable you to keep food on the table and a roof over your head.
I know many people are nervous about going, and imagine it'll be like being in the headteacher's office at school, but...
They're not judgmental, they're not there to tell you off, just to help you sort out the problem. Talking to them may help you sleep at night.
Unfortunately they can be oversubscribed. If it takes time to get an appointment with them, use the info on their websites to start to plan.

The wrong people to go to...

Avoid any debt help or loan consolidation companies that advertise on the telly or in some newspapers. Their job is to make money out of you, plain and simple. While in the short term their plans will make your payments lower, in the long run it'll cost you dear. Avoid them. Don't touch them. Don’t go near them.
This includes IVA companies who advertise about “a little known government loophole”. While it sounds good, it’s only for a few people. If it is for you the debt counselling agencies should suggest it

You can do the CCCs debt remedy on-line if you want. And a lot of people are in the same boat, so it is hard to get through.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • i have just completed the cccs remedy

i will ring them tomorrow for help

what worries me now is that we took advice of the "mw" moneyworries chap and have got a new bank account (which was a good idea) but that will leave old bank realising on the 25th that we have run away to someone else leaving £2800 overdraft behind

just hoping that cccs can advise us and get us a DMP asap

one good thing about talking to the "mw" chap was that we now know our total unsecured debt is £10,500 so at least i will have all info for the cccs

thanks to all of you for advice

  • The overdraft with the old bank account just becomes one of the debts you will pay on the DMP. Don't worry about it.

  • i have just had dealings with money worries was rail roades into something i didnt need let alone want took debit card payment of 60 luckily enough not more try ringing on hold 4 ever no 1 wants to know. any 1 who is in same boat and worried bout future payments aslong as u have not sent the pack bak with the direct debit details its only a bebit card payment simply ring the bank and cancel the card stopping futere payments being taken then ring the consumer direct line on 08454040506 or consumerdirect.gov.uk and tell them bout it and they will contact trading standards and report all the details and hopefuly get something done then rite a letter informing of cancellation relating to tearms 1.4 and tearm 7 in tearms and conditions send it by recorded delivery ( proof incase they say they didnt get it) and ask them to do the same back to confirm then ring the financial ombusman to see if ur entileled to any money already paid DO NOT USE MONEY WORRIES TOTAL SCAM SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT PLACES LIKE THIS
  • Oh god, it's awful to see that company are still operating. I took them to the financial ombudsman and it took me over 6 months to get my initial fee back after I cancelled within 2 weeks of finding this site. They are terrible to get a hold of which was their downfall in the end. I tried recorded delivery letters, calling all day and night, email and faxes which they completely ignored - even trading standards couldn't help. I was one of the lucky ones, I have been with cccs for the last 6 months and have never had any trouble contacting them and I feel like a weight has been lifted.
Please, please do not sign up to moneyworries, they are complete scammers!
