DSG Gearbox

Hi

We are changing our car soon & we would like to get one with the DSG automatic gearbox like Volkswagen do.

Can anybody tell me who, apart from the VW group, manufacture this type of gearbox please.

Thanks

Mike

Ford have an equivalent - Powershift - that is available on the Focus and the CMAX. We've got a CMAX with the 2.0TDCi 136 bhp with the Powershift gearbox. It is very smooth, gearchanges are almost imperceptible. Haven't been able to catch it out as yet, it always seems to be in the right gear at the right time. Ford don't give you the paddle shift option that VW do, but since we've never had a car with paddle shift gear change, we don't miss it!

It is also very economical - we're averaging about 43 to the gallon, in mixed driving, and we don't particularly drive for economy.

    Hope that helps.

    Porsche and Bugatti!!

The Ford system is due to be used in Volvos.

I've the DSG in an Audi - great system, but not cheap if it goes wrong. IMHO paddles are essential if you want to get the most out of the gearbox on twisty rural roads as I've found it doesn't change down early enough for corners.

And Audi were using the DSG gearbox as far back as the original Quattro,so it's not exactly new.

    Ken.
That's my mutt in the picture above.
  • i would imagine most new cars offer it, i would avoid it, on my new golf it is terrible, but other people with the same car have not had problems

Mercedes do a version called tiptronic, i was going to buy a golf but after researching got the impression the DSG boxes are a tad fickle after 50,000 miles or so

Tiptronic is different from a DSG. Tiptronic's are tradional automatics that you can control via paddles, buttons or by nudging the gear stick. Some are OK and some are truly dire.
