Hi,
as you might have seen from another thread, I've got a new, to me, laptop, Samsung
R710.
Now previous owner wiped his personal details, but has left a lot of rubbish games
etc, (74 running processes), he gave me 3 Samsung DVD,
System recovery media,
Cyberlink Suite and
System software Media.
I want to totally wipe things, what do I do?
Thanks.

Uninstall everything you don't want run registry cleaners, and file cleaners, run a defrag. Also run virus/spyware checks.0

Hi,
thanks for reply,
have installed and run SuperAntiSpyware and Ad-Aware, not a lot of rubbish picked
up, but would like to get back to 'factory settings' if poss.0 -
Hi,
took a chance and put in the System recovery media, now at 5 %, so see what
happens,
Just have another can to settle me.0 -
Hi,
here's the up date,
everything fine, no problems, all I have now on Desktop is Recycle Bin, and no
rubbish in it yet, so why worry,
I'm so de-stressed now, think I'll just have another can.:beer:0 -
have you checked running processes in task manager ?? is it back down to a reasonable level ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

BUT he said he'd used a recovery disk, not a full wipe & re-install, hence asking for clarification..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Hi,
running processes now 34, which seems a bit more reasonable, though havn't installed
anything yet.
I'll be going for what I'm used to, Avast, Ad-Aware, Comodo, Spybot
Spywareblaster and SuperAntiSpyware.
Just wondering, before I start installing, now that it all went so well, whether to instal
XP instead, as I'm used to it, I have a genuine disc, so should be no problem?
Any thoughts?0 -
Depends on the spec of the laptop, vista is fine really. I'd personally swap out comodo with PCTools firewall, and scrap spybot as compared to SAS its next to useless. Also because PCTools firewall comes with Threatfire you shouldn't need spywareblaster.0

Spybots IMMUNISE feature is very useful. As is spywareblaster as they both prevent nasties 'at the source':idea:0
