help please! my computer keeps doing the blu screen of death thing!

hi guys,
My computer keeps turning itself off when i turn it on. it starts up but before it gets to the password thing it just cuts out. A few times this has happened the screen goes blue and says something like ''fatal error''!
My brother told me this was the blue screen of death! and that my computer was basically bu**ered! i was told by a friend to do disk cleanup and defrag which i have many times. and ive also deleted a load of programs/shortcuts/documents that i dont need. Ive noticed aswel that i only have 1GB of RAM of which i am currently using 70%, im trying everything to get it down but theres nothing else to delete!
so it didnt blue screen for a few days but it has just started to do it again every time i turn it on. Is there any helpful techie who can help me?! im not too computer litterate but i get by! im on Vista home premium if thats any good?

thankyou!:o

you use a program called crucial and it will tell you which ram you currently have and which ram to buy but even though they advertise ram for sale you dont have to buy from them so you make a note of the type of ram and you look on ebuyer, dabs, aria for cheapest 1, im not saying ram is the problem as it could be something else but there was another poster on here who was also running vista and she needs more ram

Have you updated windows fully? Have you updated all you drivers? Have you run virus/spyware scans?
