  • Hi - I would ask the social services about who and why the independant reviewer is there, what info they have beforehand - if any, and who they are accountable to.
They may be a good thing - perhaps your social services have been reviewing how they deliver their services.
There are alot of changes countrywide at the moment under the short breaks heading as described in ' aiming high for disabled children'.
we have just been allocated funding for my son in a way that our social services was saying was unobtainable just 4 months ago because of these changes.
There is a sort of iro at my sons hospice to make sure that all cases are treated accoring to the right criteria.

Hope it went went well, LHB

Any child that will start sleeping over for longer than a set number of nights (the number may differ from council to council...it used to be any overnight) and the child will be classed as a LAC (Looked after child). At this stage an IRO is involved if it is only regarding overnights. They get much quicker involved when it is a CP matter...They are called Independent but usually employed by the council....their power has recently increased and the Social Care people (Social Workers and their managers) have to listen slightly ,more...however...the last decision is still the Social Care...but later in cases of disagreements...the view of an IRO is a good stick to hit the Social Care with...hope this helps...
