EDF cuts electricity prices by up to 12.5% (8.8% average)

A headline grabbing 12.5% reduction
The truth being:
[]
It's not EDF who write the headlines. Are suppliers' published reductions not governed by the regulators to use the same usage and regional averaging averages? It is the headline writers, the press, who are doing the spin and who ought to be educated. (cf Watchdog's feeble reaction to nPower/Ofgem's sculpting ruling.)0 -
It's not EDF who write the headlines. ...
I suspect it was EDF who drafted the original press release.
As regards the "headline grabbing 12.5% reduction", since this is restricted by the term " up to", I presume as long as at least one customer gets that amount then the claim is true."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Sorry, you've lost me, KY. The energy industry has a REGULATOR?
Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
which cancels out the electricity cut for me. Instead I now ONLY get 150 points=75p. Suspect my prompt pay disc. will also go.0

Today I learned that EDF are terminating their Self-Read saver program effective 1st April 2009. This was quite a nice saver - last year I saved some GBP32 on my gas and electricity bills this way.
In place they will offer Nectar points (ooh, be still my heart) up to a (probably impossible to achieve) 4000 points per annum. This translates into approx GBP 20 at Sainsbury's. You can guess how little it costs EDF to pass out the Nectar points, so they're onto a big profit increase. I see from their web site that the Nectar scheme also includes points for paying for two fuels, any guesses as to which money saver will get the chop next? Merde!!0 -
EH UP!!!, I'm from up T'north, looks like were getting nowt 'o' these fancy price cuts, I switched to these a few months ago and got a case of wine, and loads of nectar points into the bargain, I'll open one o't bottles and mix it wee me bitter, give it a month an I'll be doing another comparision0
