Grant Thornton took a year to settle

I was lucky enough to come into some money a year or so into my IVA. I asked my then acting party Debt Matters to offer a settlement to my creditors.

I transfered 10k to DM after they told me my creditors has accepted.

DM wrote to me and said it was all on track, and my account was promptly transfered to Grant Thornton.

Grant Thornton then took over a year to settle, with me chasing them, calling their premium rate number every month. It wasn't until I really threatened some poor chap on the phone that someone took any action.

Basically I'm glad my IVA is settled, I still have to live with it for the next few years, trying to find a mortgage even with 10% deposit is almost impossible.. but I really want to claim some form of compensation from GT.

Has anyone come across these guys and had similar dealings? If so, how and what did you do?

Cheers.

Grant Thornton dealt with my IVA from start to finsh , we completed after 3 years with a F&F. I always found them helpful and never had any issues with them. Once the F&F was paid it did take 8 months to get completion certificate but this was due to one creditor refusing to put their claim in for payment, GT contacted them a number of times and eventually they were excluded and did not get any money.

From reading another forum and speaking there to a few that had IVA with other companies some are completed quickly and some take months, one guy I spoke to took 10 months.

I never had to ring GT on a premium number just normal geographical phone number . Did GT give you a reason for the delay in sorting things for you ?

  • thanks Doelani. No they didn't give me any answers at all. The worse thing was that I knew the offer had been accepted from Debt Matters - and although they said they had to follow due process and repeat the whole series of events in terms of contacting creditors and so on, it would have been nice to have been kept informed.

The lack of communication was in many ways the thing that gets to me. When a thing like thisis hanging overyour head, you've done all you can to resolve it and all the decisions and sometimes life changing actions that take place are out of your hands.

When I called up it was a case of having to explain my whole situation every single time and it wasn't as if I was was talking to anyone that could actually do anything about it, they were just answering phones.

Think I will write to them and request compensation. See how that goes.
