Jewellery recycling

Hi Alison, thanks for your post.
Unfortunately though I'm still none the wiser as to how a school or charity can be assured they've had a reasonable valuation. Can you tell me how they can do that?

Well guys sorry but i wouldnt trust jewellery recycling as far as i could throw them here is why..........
1, All jewellery is put into sealed plastic bags at home so the organiser has no idea as to what is in the bags. For all they know there could be a huge diamond ring in there (doubt it but you never know)
2, Do a google search and near every single fundraiser gets around £200 ish and scrap value on gold at the moment is around £22 per gram thats £22000 per kilo
3, They have allegedly dealt with thousands of school and charities so one would think they would have a considerable turnover. Take a look at companies house to get a copy of their annual returns and guess what at the moment it comes up as dormant. Last time i checked it was exempt from filing returns as it was a small enterprise.
4, If you do deal with them they dont send you an offer for the goods they just send you payment. Can you argue with it........No .........Why ? you didnt see what was in the bags.
5, What they do is totaly legal but i think extremly unethical. If you want to donate jewellery to a good cause either take it to your local jeweller for an appraisal or send it to a company that will phone you with an offer for it and give them the proceeds and if your not happy with it they send it back.
I could rant on a bit more but i think you will get the picture just look into it a little even through their own website and you start to see the flaws
Good luck0 -
It is really disappointing that you feel this way - if you have any concerns or worries just pick up the telephone and call the freephone number and let jewellery recycling answer your worries. They do not just 'deal in gold' they deal with all unwanted jewellery, plastic's etc things that would normally be thrown in the bin - like all those broken cheap watches.
Not everyone in this world is out to fleece others, some people really are charitable minded.0 -
