"I only kept the blog running for about three months and made $180 upto Jan 09 (which isn't much in part because of the weakness of the weak pound). "
I think, Nads you'll find that the weak pound actually increases your income when you are being paid in dollars!:rotfl:
But, that aside, DH has a website getting 100-200 hits a day - average Adsense earnings from that is just about a dollar a day - just about pays his hosting bill!! I suppose from that we can guess that to make anything decent you'd need thousands of hits a day at least...
If it sounds too good to be true...0 -

It really does depend on what ads are being served by google. Since the ads are contextual the ad served is relevant to the page content. The content to my site is financial, so click throughs on my pages pay a decent amount.
Also, ad placement on the page is VERY important if you want people to click through0 -
My best adsense month was about $2200.
My first month was $2.31
See #6 because that's what I did.
Adsense makes up the majority of my entire income. And I am the sole earner in my household, so it pays everything for me. It IS my income.0 -

Actually it's the other way around, you get more money because of the weak pound!! i.e. $180 last year would of got your say £90 now it gets you £120 (these aren't accurate btw)
Out of interest how many google impressions and clicks was that? I get about 60k a month but not as many clicks as I'd like0 -
Hehe yeh my stupidity exceeds me by a few mile - as Mrs Money pointed out

I might withdraw it soon
I can't talk about actual figures but my page impressions were lower than those and click through rate was <1%!
That's poor but I didn't spend the right amount of time you need to build it up (I got a real world job!)0 -
I have a handful of sites which earn me a decent additional income from AdSense, paid links and affiliate schemes. These are old, established sites with good SE rankings.
Best advice I can give is:
a. build sites that solve problems/answer questions (clue: if you search Google for something and can't find the answer easily or there is no site dedicated to it, then build one! Other people will be looking for what you are)
b. selling your own products makes you more money in the long run than selling other peoples' products and taking a cut (but requires more work to create the product in the first place of course!)
Post 6 is sound advice too.0 -
Yeah google's good, although there are plenty of competing alternatives that you should try like Revenue Pilot or AdBrite0

Hi all
I'm currently seeing lots of adverts for posting links on Google. Apparently some people are making thousands of pounds per month !!
Does anybody have any experiences of this, either positive or negative? I'm a sceptic by nature !!
Thanks
Andy
You are right to be a sceptic - those ads are a scam. As the posts above show there is a lot more to making money from adsense than "posting links on Google".
( I assume you are referring to the ads which lead to emillionaire institute : emillionaireinstitute.com via various fake 'blogs')
There is some more info on this scam at the following links:
http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/163463/page/1
http://wafflesatnoon.com/2009/02/17/connecting-the-dots-google-grant-scams-part-2/
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/base/thread?tid=731ed5d8320c6794&hl=en
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=emillionaireinstitute+scam&btnG=Search&meta=
They are advertising on sites via Overture; MSN; Yahoo and Google adwords content network as well as on Facebook with Facebook ads and have hundreds of spam blogs linking to emillionaireinstitute.com - Funny how the faces and pictures change but the story remains the same!
All these people worked for a "pipe manufacturing company", lots of them are married to someone called "Audrey" and they all got cheques for exactly $5000.00 with the same date in October 2008 - ??? Really!?
eg: do this search: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=AlexxelA75&btnG=Search&meta=
And you will find loads of this rubbish:
JasonBerinski.com
markgetsgreen.com/
anthonyisgreen.com/
nickgetsgreen.com/
kevinsrecessionblog.com/jobs/kevin-hoeffer/
edwhitleymoneyjob.com/1/
jeffgetsgreen.com/
marysmoneyblog.com/index.php?
and literally hundreds more!
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=AlexxelA75+%22Gets+Green%22&meta=
This search shows over 360 identical blogs linking to emillionaire institute (only the names and pictures of people change):
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%22A+year+ago+I+was+an+account+manager+for+a+(drum+roll)+a+pipe+manufacturing+company.+%22&hl=en&filter=0
They all lead to https://secure.emillionaireinstitute.com/g5/ or a variation thereof.
So yes basically it's a scam - avoid!

Adsense of course isn't a scam but it's not "posting links to Google". You will need your own website or blog with quality content and good traffic (visitors).
