Earning Money with Google - any experiences?

Hi all

I'm currently seeing lots of adverts for posting links on Google. Apparently some people are making thousands of pounds per month !!

Does anybody have any experiences of this, either positive or negative? I'm a sceptic by nature !!

Thanks

Andy

I was also wondering about this, there are so many ads on facebook for it. I suspect seeing as its such a low fee, (£1) then perhaps the person setting this up is just hoping for a few thousand people who say might as well give it a go, its only a pound! I guess I am sceptical too!

If you are talking about Google Adsense then making few thousand a month is veryyyy hard, you would need a very high traffic site with high earning keywords. If you search how much do you make with Adsense you will see most make double digits which is still good for side money, having a few blogs/forums would help. Dont click your own keywords Google will ban you from using Adsense and you can get blacklisted on other PPC systems.
  • Thanks for the replies, Facebook seems like every 3rd advert is someone saying they're making 5K a month, or that they're earning more than the old job was paying by posing links to Google!!

I guess the old adage is true, if it seems too good to be true then it probably is !!

    Thanks again

I think at some point everybody was doing it which brought down the prices of keywords.

I have dabbled it thing as an experiemnt and I think tehre was potential but I coulds tuck for ideas.

    Here's what I did:

    1. Buy a domain and a linux hosting package for a year. One.com will give you a .co.uk domain and hosting for a year for £7+vat which is a really good price. After the first year it's £20ish which gives you plenty of time to test the water. Hosting is average speeed and it doesn't give you lots to play about with but it's completely sufficient for your needs. I also use the much nicer HostGator but slightly pricer (have discount codes too :j)

    2. Install Wordpress (from wordpress.org) or TypePad or ExpressionEngine. I used Wordpress which is great but would also expriementwith the others. Relatively easy to setup and installing themes is dead easy too.

    3. You need content! You need to create a blog about something that you canr regularly write something useful or interesting about.

    4. Add Google Adsense (and Google Analytics)

    5. ????

    6. Profit!

I only kept the blog running for about three months and made $180 upto Jan 09 (which isn't much in part because of the weakness of the weak pound).

Had I spend a lot more time on it I'm absolutely sure I would have improved up on it.

I was also very lucky as some folks submitted my website to reddit.com and I received thousands of hits over one week which gave me some financial return.

    Hope this is of help.

Most big money is in Search Engine Optimization. My mum's old company charged £600 per month to place companies at the top of specific search results (like 'plumbers essex' etc). You need a site with a good google ranking though, which is difficult to achieve overnight

    Hi

I earn a fair amount via adsense, I have a number of very old and established sites that site in competitive arena's and do ok. The key here is competitive.. in a competitive niche (or not so niche) then the cost to the advertiser is more as there are many site owners competing against each other for best placement in the adsense ads / and search results on google (the sponsored ones, top and right handside).

If you can achieve some results where competition is fierce, like anything financial, or mobile phones etc and you place the adsense ads well on your pages, the odd click may be even worth $2 and upwards. Soon mounts up.
  • I too earn from adsense, but not in 1000 just something which could make my expenses meet.

  • I haven't seen the ads on Facebook, however I assumed that rather than using Adsense and building a site with valuable content. It would be using Adwords in a technique known as GoogleCash.

Basically you sign up as an affiliate to some webservice or product. You then list an Adwords ad on Google, using your referral link. This is pretty risky as you have to "bid" for the keywords your ad will be linked to. Everytime someone clicks your link you pay this bid to Google even if they dont buy the product/ service you are advertising, if they do buy the product/service you earn your commission as an affiliate.

The dream is the money comes rolling in, say you pay 20p per click and 20% of people that click the link also buy the product, which earns you £20 commission. Every 100 people that click your link you pay to google £20 but you earn £400, a profit of £380 every 100 clicks on your link.

Unfortuately you will more likely have 0.5% of people buy the product. The bid price will be super competitive and after your first couple of weeks you will owe google about £30. Well thats what happened to me anyway :o
