Balance Transfer Amounts

I currently have the required Egg Money Card with a credit limit of 2300, and another old credit card with a limit of 3700. Both get paid in full each month and pretty much have done since I got them, a few times I forgot and got interest (always did min. payment).

I want to open an Abbey Zero card to top up my ISA allowance for this year and cover next years, so looking for a balance transfer of £5000ish - my question is, can Abbey tell on the credit check that my credit limit on the Egg account is lower than this amount, and therefore refuse it/give me a lower BT?

As I see it, they could think they won't make much money out of me, and could definately tell I'm stoozing if they find out I'm asking for more than my CL - but can they find this out?

I suppose if an underwriter did a manual search they could see that you don't have a £5K credit card debt/limit reported to the CRA (I have an £8K card that's not reported), but that's unlikely to happen.

If you're nervous, then leave the BT instruction off the application. Highly unlikely they'll then check if you're BT'ing to an existing account.
