Belkin or Netgear Router?

WAS looking at buying a Belkin Wireless Router (F5D7230UK4) until I saw the bad reviews on Amazon. Saw that the option was to buy a Netgear WGR614 ....... but which one?? Plenty on eBay (and Amazon!!) but of various versions. All I want is a wireless router (equivalent to the Belkin) for my works Laptop when working from home, rather than being tied to a socket with a LAN cable!! Budget would be about the same as the Belkin (£30'ish)
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

    I have a Netgear WGR614 and it's fine.

I'm sure the Belkin you're considering is fine too.

I'd go for Netgear, purely because I've had problems with Belkin stuff in the past. I have the same one as MartyJ (I think) and it's been excellent.

i second the wgr614, ive not used a belkin so i cant comment, the netgear is easy to setup and use, i think the different versions are just what the update is on the router eg theres version 7,

Now that I come to think about it, when we got the Netgear WGR614 (my second Netgear router), it stopped working after a few weeks and we had to take it back and exchange it for a new one. My previous Netgear router has never had any problems whatsoever.

It just goes to show that there isn't a product anywhere without a bad review, so don't let that put you off the Belkin (though if every review is bad, that's generally a good indicator something is up). Either of the routers mentioned in your initial post would likely work fine for you.

hmmm.. i'm not a fan of belkin. they just seem to be clunkier and not as nice to use/set up as Netgear ones...

  • Don't like Belkin much and I have bought a Netgear WGR614 router - what a load of rubbish! It's only good as a paperweight, it keeps restarting itself every
couple of minutes - totally useless. I think most brands of routers for consumer use aren't up to much.

I have a Belkin which has been fine - it was recommended by my son-in-law, who is an IT manager, as he considers them the best for most things they make. He refused to be associated with the one that AOL supplied me with FOC!
