Hey that's terrible, what a nightmare for you.
Daft as it sounds there may be a course of action you can take. Report them to the RSPCA. Your neighbours dogs aren't being kept in a decent environment.
It's ok for humans, but not animals.

Ring the council tax office, tell them about the change of use of the premises next door, if hes running a business from home then he may find he needs to pay business rates.

Wonder in the inland revenue would be interested?

I know its not nice to have to be so underhand yourself but sometimes you have to play as dirty as them
  • Thanks for the advice, the problem is the woman is my husbands cousin:eek:

I have reported them to all sorts of people. As nothing has been done and it has been going on for so long, I don't think I have any option but to try the RSPCA and the Inland revenue. I have left these till last but am really at my wits end.

I was actually waiting for them to be evicted, as I know they haven't been making their mortgage payments. I feel guilty for feeling like this, but there are also other things concearning me. Like my electric bill going up to nearly £100 a month on a 2 bed terrace! They had their electric cut off a few months ago and now their house is lit up like a shop window and my bill has shot up. Don't know if i'm just being paranoid?

    Thanks Again
I love bargains but freebies are better!! ;-)

Hi You need to contact an Environmental health officer at you local council as it is an offence to encourage vermin. You could also see if the council could take actuion under section 215 of the Town and Country planning acts (basically it deals with eyesores).
If you get no joy contact your local councillor, thats what they are paid for to help the rate payers.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

As for your electric that's easy. Just go round thehouse and switch off everything then see if your meter stillspins round.
It does sound very high but if your heating is electric it might be right?

Well just thought i'd add my recent experiences!

Though we called him and he new they were coming from next door (FACT) he could do absolutely nothing unless THEY called him out. As that is where they were nesting!

But basically he also reported this to the environmetal health & council but the situation continues!

    Thanks Adele

The Council can take action on rubbish in people's garden especially that large amount. They can also take action on your neighbour to force them to get rid of the rats especially if they are causing you a nusiance.
Have you tried contacting the Enviromental Health department for an update on what is happening? Sometimes these things are very long drawn out especially if the officer keeps giving them householder lots of chances to sort it themselves without taking legal action.
The best thing is to contact your local councillor (you can usually find their e-mail address on the internet) and just lay it on thick the problems being caused but just make it clear you have reported it to enviromental health and no action has been taken. You should also copy your e-mail/letter to the director of enviromental health and possibly the leader of the council. Any manager with all that pressure on them will do everything they can to get your problem sorted as soon as possible and get them of his back.

By the way Pest Control officers have their hands tie over baiting and can only bait if they have permission of the property owner/tenant in most cases because the posion has to be signed for incase a pet or anyone in the household decides to give it a try (and your be suprised how many people do).
  • £100 a month on electricity is pretty normal these days isnt it? Mine is more than that.

Mine is about £40-£50 PM, but thats just a 2bed flat - Sounds reasonable to me.

As for rats, eugh, I had nightmares about them when I was younger as my Uncle told me if I ever came across one it would attack my throat! I was terrified!

I was down at my friends last week, I was smoking in the garden at about 2am and I heard the recycle bin racketing about, I was like IS THAT A CAT? - NO ITS A RAT. EEEEEEK, I legged it!

His neighbour sounds alot like yours ding_dong, they have LOADS of rubbish in their garden and the rats are coming from there. Gives me the jeebies thinking about those tails.....

After reading this I had a nightmare last night, dreamt I was by the canal and a rat jumped up at me. I fainted and fell in the water. Had to get up and have a coffee! :o:D
