Basil, out of interest, did your company have any problems with the glass claim as you had "modified" your car?
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

    Thanks everyone,

Cant check my policy as the theives also took all my documents regarding my mortgage and insurance details (they were in a big file under the stairs), What use all that stuff is too them I dont know.

But the Sat Nav was in the house in a bag which they took and threw the contents out up the road and just took the things that were worth anything.

So on a different point If I bought a Sat nav and it was sat in my house wrapped in christmas paper as a present and I got burgled and they took all the presents would it still be classed as a motoring accessory, How do the insurance companys come up with these ridiculous small prints.

So basically if a Sat nav is nicked whether its at home or in a car locked in a boot your stuffed.

I will ring the Halifax and see if I can speak to a different person and see what they say.

Thanks again peeps. Will keep you informed.
  • Apparently car modifications such as sat navs could invalidate your insurance.

Basically if the Sat Nav was actually in your house your home contents will PROBABLY cover it (Some will try and get out of paying for it), if it was in the car and you have cover on your home insurance for Personal Possessions (Cover away from home) your contents would probably pay for it normally if its locked in the boot or glove compartment. A Car insurance policy normally covers personal effects of around £100 in the car.

Whether its worth claiming for it under either policy is another matter as you will have your excess deducted and will lose some no claims bonus.

If the sat nav is "permanently" wired into the car most (Not all) car policies will cover it under the normal part of the policy. Sat Navs are fairly new technology so the way they are covered varies from company to company
