Credit Card Refund question.

This is my first post. Please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong place or even on the wrong site, my question is on the fringes of "money saving"
My wife and I ordered a kitchen from a large DIY store. Initially we tried to pay on my wife's credit card but it had insufficient credit, so it was refused. we paid on mine and all was fine. After 3 months of frustration and poor service we cancelled our kitchen and requested a refund. First they attempted to credit my wifes card. This was refused by the credit card company, as the transaction was not made with that card. They then refunded my card.
A couple of months later I received a call from the store saying they had, in addition, to refunding my card they had also credited my wifes card.
Does anyone know what my rights are? It seems they are unable to take the money back from the credit card company without my wifes authorisation.
I apologise if I have posted incorrectly, I guess this post is more "money making" than "money saving"

This sounds like an absolute mess caused by sheer incompetence. The first thing I suggest you do, is to ask your wife to call her CC company to confirm the refund. At the same time, you should do the same to make sure that your card has been credited. If both cards have been refunded, then your wife should give consent to her CC company to make the refund. Before doing something... do nothing0

You have at law no right to hold on to the refund on your wife's card. They have every right to demand it back and if necessary they could issue court proceedings against you to recover it.
Often people would get away with it if the mistake is not realised, but clearly in your case it has been.
The best advice would be to place the money in a high interest savings account and only pay it back when they start putting heavy pressure on you.0
