Good rate for a 17 year old almost 18

My daughter has 5k to invest. She is a student and she wants a reasonable return, currently she has a Abbey account I think it pays less than 0.5%. She doesn't mind in being tied up but if worse comes to worse, she can get at it, obviously I realise there is a penalty. I doubt she will use money for at least a year as we support her, she is disabled
Oh most of the money is savings when she was a child, she rarely spends money

A fixed rate ISA and a fixed rate bond will give the best rates, might be harder to get under 18 though.0

Most ISAs you can get when you are 16, S&S obviously you can't. So you are saving the money, not investing.
However there are loads of good rates:
