Faulty Memory Card

Options
I bought an M2 memory card for a phone back in January from a barrow in the Metro Centre. It was in official Sony packaging and worked fine till a couple of weeks ago where it just went faulty, wouldn't be detected in any phone or format.

A manager where I work took it home to try and fix it but he said it's basically rubbish and I've been sold a dud card. The receipt was a piece of paper which I no longer have, so I was wondering if I had any rights at all to get a replacement from them? They've been there years so I've no reason not to trust them but seen a lot of posts online about fake memory cards so wondering if it could be one of those.

If he's selling counterfeit Sony products, you need to report him to Trading Standards. They will probably want the memory card so they can determine whether or not it's a genuine Sony product.

Loads of fake Sony memory about, i would have a word with Sony check the serial number
  • There's always posts on ebay about fake memory cards. Have you tried contacting Sony to see if they can verify that it is real or fake? In my dealings with Sony (faulty PS3) they have been really helpful.
  • Google "h2testw 1.4". You will come accross a site called sosfakeflash. The program will test you card and give you a read out as evidence.

I bought 2 4gb sd cards from ebay for a tomtom one v2. Apparently these can't read sdhc sd cards so only a transcend or topram 4gb non sdhc would work unless i went for a smaller card.

Both were faulty. One registered 0 bytes and wouldn't format. The other would format but corrupted if i tried to save more than about 1.8gb to it.

It seem a lot of cards that come of the production lines and fail testing don't get scrapped as they are supposed to. Instead they go out the back door and get rebranded as fakes.

I got my money back through paypal and will never use ebay for memory cards again. I also found a site that allowed me to update my tomtom to a better boot version so it will read even a 16gb sdhc card. Now I can get an 8gb sandisk card from play for what I paid for a 4gb.
  • Drop me a PM if you want a 2GB genuine M2 card from Sony. I have a market stall and sell these every week
You are welcome to one if you pay for postage.

    thanks
