can you get visa gift cards in the UK ?

Hi my uncle who lives in the USA sent me a Visa Gift card for my birthday last year and I thought it was a excellent idea rarther than him having to send cash in the post. do you no of any were in the UK you can get these from ??

for people that dont no a visa gift card is when you have to make a pre-payment on the card say £50 then you send it to some 1 as a present, they can then spend the total that is on the card.

Thinking of doing it for my family here in the UK cousins etc.

thanks for help !

  • I've seen the prepaid Visa (also Mastercard and Amex) in the shops in the US, they have them in supermarkets and drugstores. It does look like a great idea although you have to register them after purchase and wait for the card to be sent to you (you buy a sort of fake card).

Did a quick search and seems like there are no UK providers as yet for Visa itself (though a couple of websites mention Visa electron versions) - do a Google search for "visa gift card uk".

Does anyone know if it's possible to get hold of these US prepaid credit cards in the UK - and if so - can they be used on the US iTunes music store (you have to have a US registered card to use it)? :)

You would have to register the card to a US address to activate it, and that's where the card gets sent, so it would only work if you have a US address that you can have mail sent to.

But once that was done, it would indeed be a US-registered credit card so I can't see why it wouldn't work on US iTunes.

Why do you insist in Visa? These cards are Maestro (Mastercdard) and I don't know any disadvantages as against Visa: bluecorner.co.uk

Maestro Cards tend to be accepted far less in shops worldwide that Visa cards. Visa is a much better option for Debit Cards almost worldwide acceptence. One thing that puzzles me is why we don't issue Mastercard Debit Cards as well as Visa Debit cards here like they do in the States rather than Maestro. Much better coverage in shops worldwide.
