Capital One 4 x £12 Charges for one fault

End of Nov my partner had our baby :jand with all the chaos I forgot to check if enough funds were in my (Alliance & Leicester Premiere Direct) current A/C to pay the Capital One direct debit.

There was plenty in the Premiere Direct Savings but Alliance & Leicester think it is better customer service to fine you £25 rather than use the money from the savings A/C.

Additionally Capital One charged £12 for returned payment, £12 for Late of Failure to Pay £12 for exceeding the limit (by £10.50 for 4 days) , and another £12 for exceeding the limit (for the few days in the following statement month). One mistake that cost me £73! And has destroyed my credit rating.

I had my wallet stolen in January and had all my cards reissued.

Captail one charged me another £12 for 'Late of Failure to Pay' because the balance of £12 (Late of Failure to Pay mentioned above, everything else was paid off) did not get taken because according to Alliance & Leicester the A/C number Captial One used for the Direct Debit was the previous credit card number.:mad::mad::mad:

I guess there is nothing I can do?

You can claim like the rest of us all those £12 FEES. Write to them with the template from this site detailing the charges and then they will reply saying that they agree that all their charges are lawful etc. Once you have this letter which is their full and final offer (or not so to speak lol)you can then go the FOS and they will act on your behalf for free. It is not a quick service by any means, but Capital One will agree a refund eventually. If you have the patience, go for it - you will get it back and rather you than them!
