No. You get paid 24 hours a day regardless of whether you are on leave, sick leave, ops etc.
Paternity leave is a recent thing in the forces. I have 3 kids and never got it. (youngest is 6 going on 26!!)0 -

Did your mates also tell you that they go on statutory sick pay when they are off work for a certain amount of time, don't get free medical, prescriptions and dental, don't get 6 weeks plus bank holidays paid leave a year don't play sport on a Wednesday and finish at dinnertime on a Friday.
Want the same terms and conditions as them?0 -
I though paternity pay was the same as statutory sick leave, ie you only get it if your employer doesn't give you paid paternity leave.0

My dh got normal pay which we were very happy with! Its far more than most people get.
I don't know a single civvy who has received normal AND paternity pay tbh. In fact i don't know any who have received normal pay! Most i know have taken holiday to cover their paternity leave and generally only a week at that. They don't want to use half their holiday in one go or can't afford to have two weeks off on paternity pay.0
