Personal Docs Lost By Post Office

Their whole lives were in that package, sending it first class recorded you would think that it would be looked after and deliverd next day.NO!!
if this was the case, then why would special delivery exist? 72p vs a service costing £4+
unfortunatly as has been said fr items of value then SD is the only service to use especially given the time sensitive nature and costs for replacement0 -
never send anything of value thro the Post Office. They lose stuff all the time and really don't care. (I'm sure individuals do, but the company does not)
I now tie everything to the back of a pigeon--it never arrives either but I don't waste time looking for it.LBM-2003ish

then why does recorded delivery exist?
To prove that something that essentially has no value i.e. a complaint letter has been received by it's intended recipient.
I recently sent a book to a friend of my husbands. DH is away and I don't have the friends phone number, so I sent the parcel recorded delivery so I could check it had been received (it only cost £1, I'd buy it again if the first one had gone missing).
Cheques can also be sent recorded delivery, as they can be easily cancelled.0 -

then why does recorded delivery exist?
its original idea was for legal documents such as court citations etc where all you want is a proof of receipt
this ties in with why RD items are only held for 7 days before return
just look at the compensation levels
SD starts at £500,RD is up to £36 (100 x 1sty class stamp) so RD was never enough to cover the passport alone
plus SD offers consequential loss insurance0 -

but why?? don't the po care enough about all items?
I really don't see why the poster has to pay extra anyway--the item is in the "care" of the postoffice and so should be replaced by them if lost by them at no extra cost to the poster.
I am very cross at the po--they keep sending me the letters for other people and lose stuff I have been sent, and complaining makes NO difference.
I never send anything if I can help it--they are the instrument of thier own destruction!!LBM-2003ish

thats right
and your post should come 5 times a day
and a stamp should cost a hapenny
the whole point is SD is there to cover valuable items
if you dont use the appropriate service then you are not covered
if you want to use that argument then you would have to accept that RM should be able to charge the true cost for running a mail service not a regulated artificially low price with regulator constraints0 -
