Air cleaner pollen tobacco odour tips for cleaning

I got hold of an air cleaner (an upright fan assembly with filters, and ionizer) to help reduce the allergic effects of birch pollen, and other seasonal irritants. Unfortunately, the air cleaner has a tobacco odour (not very strong, but somewhat annoying). I've cleaned the filters (vacuum for the main filters, and washed the foam filter) and left the machine running with the ionizer on to see if it clears the odour.

Any tips on how to clear the odour are very welcome!

  • What did you wash the foam one in? I would soak in Bicarb of soda.

I would try to get hold of a replacement filter cheaply to replace the other one. I don't think you stand a chance getting the odour out of here.
