Direct Holidays info

Hi - already looking for next April's holiday and on Thomas Cook's website there are 2 prices for the same holiday - with over £200 difference.
One says it is a Direct Holiday, the other is a Thomas Cook holiday.
Direct Holidays are part of Thomas Cook so what is the difference between the two holidays? I looked under the info section of Direct Holidays website and it shows minimum of 20kg luggage (same as TC) so I wonder why it is cheaper. Does anybody know or has booked with Direct and had any problems?

Thanks
Jackie

I booked Direct hols last year for 2 weeks in sorrent, TC was showing holiday £800 more expensive. Didn't notice any difference, allocated great rooms and people that booked TC were raging when I told them price I paid for exactly the same holiday.

The purported reason is that Direct only sell direct (phone or internet) whereas Thos Cook also sell through travel agents.
  • Thanks - I checked using mytravel and the price is coming up the same as directholidays and I have used mytravel before with no problems so I am sure now the price is OK - its crazy isnt it re difference in price. I went into Thomas Cook yesterday and they were quoting over £1000 more than their own website for the same holiday!!
I can get 1.5% cashback on rpoints as well.

You can look on the direct holiday website as well. We always book on the direct holiday website (plus quidco). Also although the holidays are cheaper you get 20 kgs allowance instead of Thomas Cook, Airtours 15 kgs. Crazy isn't it. You can also prebook your seat your choice which lets you chose the seat you want on the aircraft for not a bad price at all. We always go for the rows where the seats go from three to two. And thomas cook planes are 33" as standard even in the cattle section so I don't ever book premium as we would not justify the extra as we would not drink that much. Just make sure that you are flying Thomas Cook airlines as sometimes they use Monarch which I would avoid if you are taller than 3 ft!
No Matter what you do there will be critics.
  • Thanks - I must admit I prefer to fly First Choice long haul because of the comfy seating but after all it is only an 11 hour flight to Mexico!! - and I can spend the money saved on excursions etc.

We did Mexico last summer. The flight was fine plenty of leg room, our party consists of fairly young children so premium cabin is too expensive for the extras they can enjoy. Loved Mexico, am trying Cuba this year.

  • Only recently came back from Mexico with First Choice. Loved it so much that is why I am already looking for next year for 2 weeks this time.

Direct holidays were the direct arm of airtours and they were both taken over by Thomas Cook.
