persimmon kept us waiting 6 mths for nothing!

Back in July 2008 we reserved a plot with persimmon homes (yet to be built) in part exchange for my house. An agreement of £235k for theirs and £150k for mine. In august, having paid for a valuation, we were delighted to get £10k off, they agreed to 225k as thats what it was valued at.
We waited and waited for contracts to be issued (it took 5 months)arriving late december with 225k and 150k.
We signed immediately and sent them back.
In january they phoned and said they wanted to re-value my property - after chasing them for almost 3 further weeks they came back with this.... £140k for mine as thats what it was re-valued at and 225k for theirs. Now you tell me how mine can depreciate by 10k in 6 months but theirs stays the same??? Im yet to meet anyone who agrees with that except Persimmon. After writing and putting our point across it has got us nowhere except sadly a hefty solicitors fee, valuation fee and complete and utter disappointment that we have got nowhere after all this time. The dream town house that we wanted won't be happening as we simply won't pay another £10k when it was valued at 225k last august, unbelievable.

This seems a bit odd. Can you make them a lower offer and wait?Happy chappy0

I agree with you - sounds like Persimmon are struggling to sell (i know this for a fact in most places in the UK) and whoever has paid fees so far feels almost semi-committed.
It depends how much you want it i guess but i would make them wait for months and then ask them again - if they dont match your valuation of both properties cancel it.0 -
I would grab the offer with both hands if you really want the house after all they have dropped theirs already by 10 k if I read your posts rightly. It's just tit for tat really isn't it?xXx-Sukysue-xXx0

we wrote to their chairman which got forwarded to their managing director of our region and got nowhere. They aren't prepared to do anything else other than what they've offered. Exactly, a joke isn't it?? Everyone i speak to agrees. I don't understand what they are getting at. We are pulling out tomorrow as its just madness.tomstickland wrote: »This seems a bit odd. not really, we had an agreement last august of 150k and 225k (mine valued at 150 theirs 225). Why would i be happy 6 months later to accept 140k and 225k. If my property has fallen in value (it happens right the way across the board) they wouldnt even let me pay for another valuation to be carried out. I was told it was not negotiable!0 -
fitcrazy i would agree with you completely. Go to the next Redrow site and see what they'll offer you!! You'll be pleasantly surprised me thinks0

Is the house built now? My guess is that they have stopped work on it and want you to drop the deal.0

no, its just land - not a single thing has been built on it yet. it was meant to be ready by april (we were told) i would be surprised if they had them done by the end of this year!!!!0 -
ye, good idea but in my home town of exeter - don't think there will be anything:( this place was in an ideal spot for me and my partner, never mind, obviously not meant to be - just wish i hadn't spent last 6 months with so much hassle for nowt. grrrr:(thanks thoughBlakey1982 wrote: »fitcrazy i would agree with you completely. Why don't you take a look at somewhere slightly outside of Exeter such as Exmouth or hoing the other way Cullompton as both have had lots of new developments which won't be limited to just Persimmon.0
