As it was a private message I have responded privately, for public messages and for general thoughts I respond on here.

I'm not sure though that I fully understand the concept behind an auction being termed 'social change'?

I think we all agree that there's too much being taken fees wise, elsewhere.Way too much.
If I can improve peoples lives, buy putting more money in their pockets, be they sellers or buyers, then surely there's a change in their standard of living which encourages social change...less stress, healthier lives and a sunnier outlook on life. Better financial stability equals social change.

Sounds like a unfortunate mix of sixth form socialism and overly optimistic economics.
  • My auction site has been 18 months in the design and making, goes live this month, it has been online for testing for just 8 weeks, and had over 250,000 visits.
I've done a lot of homework regarding payment gateways. You find people do not like change, hence the use of Paypal. Google checkout are good, if you take up the free adwords percentages than come with its use.
I only joined this forum today.I've found the threads to be most useful.
Thought I'd ask for a few opinions on here.

Why not let people take payment in what ever form they choose?

That takes me back to my original point really. Your 'rival' if that is the right word is then probably ebid or Tazbar, what will make you better than them? Serious questions these BTW, if we can see where your thinking is taking you some of the regulars here might be able to see other ways to take this forward, you won't do it on cost alone.

Also for truly social benefit to the community then freecycling would seem to have that sewn up.

It's not the software, cricket bat, nor football that does the damage, but the man behind it.

Now you've lost me I'm afraid.

I admit to being exceptionally tired due to a rather intensive 2 day work contract (and snow preventing me from getting home easily) so maybe I had best tackle this in the morning.

Hi Soolin, my reply was to ArmitageShanks, he's going for the newbie wind-up. Anyway let me know what all your thoughts are on the various payment gateways, you included shanksy.
    Night all.
